About Us

We are a small community church focussed on blessing the community in which we live. Back in the 1970's several of us began meeting in our homes to pray and share communion. From there we have grown and changed much over the years always trying to keep Jesus at our centre.

Our Values

  • Serving at our heart.  Petworth Community Church grew from a small group of people with a heart to serve this local community and we continue to put this at the centre of everything we do.  We believe God has called us together as a group of people to bless those around us and show them how much they are loved by Jesus.  We believe this is best demonstrated through serving and meeting the needs of those around.
  • Worshipping together.  We believe that coming together to worship God builds intimacy and trust.  We believe in taking communion (taking bread and wine to remember Jesus’ death and coming back to life) as often as possible and praying with and for each other.
  • Family traditions.  All families have traditions – or rituals which grow out of shared beliefs and times together.  We seek to find ways of expressing our unity through meaningful, creative and relevant traditions.  These develop and change over time, and although their purpose is to bring unity, we aim for these to be inclusive and easy to understand by all.
  • Covenant Community.  This simply means that we believe in honouring each other and the community we live in through faithfully serving one another when we are gathered and when we are apart.  We continue to be Church wherever we are and at the centre of this belief is a deep love for each other and our community. We also love getting together with other local church communities.
  • Responsibility and opportunity.  We believe that God has given us all a circle of people that we care about. We are gifted with the responsibility of looking after these people and understanding them as best we can.  We believe this means taking opportunities to bless and help them on their journey towards Jesus.
